PREP Information
Who We Are:
We are over 426 families with 650 children served by a coordinator, a secretary and over 44 volunteer catechists. The catechists are the backbone and the lifeblood of the program. These catechists devote several hours a week to the preparation and presentation of lessons to the students currently enrolled in our programs. Furthermore, many of our catechists actively pursue Catechetical Certification at Levels I and II, each level involving 40 hours of in-service workshops and classes. They are a group dedicated to ministry to the children of our parish.
What We Do:
- Provide religious formation for public school children in grades 1-8 following the curriculum mandated by the Archdiocesan Catechetical Office.
- Provide religious formation appropriate for children with special needs
- Maintain an active home-study program of family based catechesis for those students unable to benefit from the group experience for a variety of reasons
- Provide sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation
- Provide Baptismal preparation for school-age children
- In cooperation with the Parish School, coordinate liturgies for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
- Develop, coordinate and promote service opportunities to the Parish Church and the Universal Church for our students at all grade levels.
- Stage a week-long Vacation Bible Club in July.
- Provide in-service training for catechists in conjunction with the regional and Archdiocesan Catechetical Offices.
- Maintain an audiovisual and print library of enrichment materials and reference resources in the field of religious education to be used by both the Catechetical and Parish School staffs.
What We Hope To Do In The Future
- Assist with the Youth Ministry Program for high school students
- Broaden outreach to special needs students in the parish
- Provide increased involvement for our parents
- Keep up with demographic growth in spite of limited classroom space, time slots and volunteer pool
